Traditional Chinese Medicine for Infertility?
to Getpregnantblog.com “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
Traditional Chinese medicine? Well I had already tried that in a haphazard fashion – herbs, acupuncture, dietary changes, massages – not necessarily all at once, but I had tried many elements over the years. Well she insisted that I try it again in a more comprehensive fashion. She believed so strongly in it and refused to let me wait to get pregnant for fear that I would make the same mistake she made, believing that she had time. At some point I will have to tell you her story. She finally bought me two books to read. She had been urging me to buy them but I kept hemming. So I started to read the first – interesting, complicated though it was. But I resolved to try it.
TCM advocates that you get the body ready for conception before you even try it. It is a holistic method that assumes something is wrong with the whole body and does not just treat one organ when dis-ease is present. So according to these books I would have to change my diet, start acupuncture or acupressure, do massages and try a different kind of breathing all before we even began trying to get pregnant.
The thing is that it made perfect sense. Dr. Randine Lewis’ book “The Infertility Cureâ€, just made complete sense. I had always believed in TCM, but the way it was explained in this book, which also provided diagnostic sheets so that I could diagnose myself, explanations that TCM provided for Western diagnoses and treatment details so that I might treat myself, well I just had to try it. If you are at all interested in TCM, read this book first before any other and then make up your mind.
So, much to hubby’s relief, I suggested that we focus on getting our finances in order, allowing me to finally quit my job and make the career change that I had been studying for and then try again in 2009. I decided that over the next 5 months I would put all the TCM treatments into place – change my diet and lifestyle and use acupuncture and herbs and acupressure to make my body whole and ready and conducive to inviting a baby into our lives.
He was ecstatic and so was I.
