Bump on my cervix!!!
to Getpregnantblog.com ~ The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination. ~
So, I decided that I would start using Cervical position to help me chart and learn even more about my body. I had tried to do this years ago but found it difficult to find my cervix so I gave up.
This time around I found it easy enough. I was on CD10 and it was right there low down. But as I started to feel I felt…nice and smooth…then something unusual – a bump. Slightly bigger than a pea, smooth, round and hard. Visions of cancer, and all those awful things you hear about jumped right into my head.
Well, of course, after making an appointment with the ob/gyn, I did some research and this is what I found out. It could be a number of things, most of them benign.
Firstly – a nabothian cyst which is a benign cyst of the cervix. It occurs when the normal skin of the cervix grows over a normal cervical gland. The purpose of cervical glands is to make mucous. So when the gland gets blocked off, a small cyst of mucous forms. This is completely benign. It is easy to diagnose just by looking at the cervix. There is no need to treat.
Secondly, an irritation from a trauma. This could be the trauma of vaginal delivery, or sex, or even a tampon.
Thirdly, endometriosis can show up on the cervix. This can also cause bleeding.
Fourthly, it can be a polyp from the upper cervical canal or the lining of the uterine cavity (endometrium). This can also cause bleeding.
Fifthly, it could be a wart.
And finally, it could be cervical cancer which is causing a mass.
Well, I don’t have any weird bleeding – although I seemed to spot longer than usual at the end of this cycle. But I got an appt with the doc in a couple weeks to do a pap smear and investigate this. Will try not to worry about it – I understand that cervical cancer takes years to grow anyway so no need to panic.
Also I found this website with comments from alot of other women who had the same thing and it turned out to be nothing for most of them. It was comforting.

Of course I would hate for this to interrupt our journey to our baby but at the most it will be just a slight detour – or at least that is what I am telling myself.
