TCM – dietary changes to enhance conception
to Getpregnantblog.com “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.”
Well, those initial forays into Traditional Chinese medicine were haphazard and not focused. But the focus was coming in slowly. It is difficult to make lifestyle changes and I found it was best accomplished by changing one thing at a time. That way I did not feel too overwhelmed by it. And I kept reminding myself that it was for our baby to be strong and healthy.
I did not do any acupuncture. I did not use any herbs. I just added nutritional supplements and made a lot of dietary changes. And I did ALOT of research.
I added Omega 3-6-9, a prenatal vitamin, folic acid, B complex, Green drinks, Co-Q 10, spirulina, Pycnogenol, Flaxseed oil. I will post little notes about what each of those are supposed to do in relation to fertility.
In January of this year, I discovered that I had high cholesterol. So the game was really on now to eat healthy. I gave up fried foods – bye, bye KFC
That was really tough for me because I just loved it.
Then I started to cut back on processed foods and foods with alot of chemicals in it. The objective of TCM is to make the body healthy and balanced and harmonised so that the internal environment is ready and able to allow conception to occur. The body is also well prepared to nourish a growing fetus. So it is essential to take out the toxins and not put in chemicals as far as possible. All for baby.
This meant I had to cook alot of my own foods – that was really a challenge and hubby had to adjust too. It made him a little grumpy that I could not eat out in certain places anymore. But slowly he has adjusted and is now quite the advocate of healthy wholesome eating.
I also had to read a lot of labels and some of my favourites went out the cupboard. Big adjustments but well worth it if it means that we can conceive and have a healthy baby.
