Get Pregnant Tip #2: Lower High FSH to conceive with your own eggs

Once a Western doctor hears that your have high FSH, then they totally give up on your chances of conceiving on your own with your own eggs. They immediately jump to “donor eggs”. If you have heard that diagnosis, then you understand the total devastation that comes along with it – the pure disappointment and grief that you cannot have a baby with your or your wife’s genes. It might surprise you to know that it is not necessarily true that high FSH cannot be lowered.

Firstly, let us look at what FSH is, and what is considered high. FSH is short for Follicle Stimulating Hormone. FSH stimulates the growth and recruitment of immature Ovarian follicles in the ovary during the follicular phase of your cycle. Without it follicles will go on to programmed death and never develop. Levels of FSH is supposed to rise and fall during specific times of a normal cycle to enable proper development of eggs and preparation for the next cycle. It peaks on Day 3 of your cycle, which is why the doc will send you to test it then.

FSH is often used as a gauge of ovarian reserve. In general, under 6 is excellent, 6-9 is good, 9-10 fair, 10-13 diminished reserve, 13+ very hard to stimulate. In PCOS testing, the LH:FSH ratio may be used in the diagnosis. The ratio is usually close to 1:1, but if the LH is higher, it is one possible indication of PCOS.

High FSH is thought to signal premature menopause or premature ovarian failure. And as we said above, western medicine feels there is little that can be done to lower high FSH.

However, Traditional Chinese Medicine is focused on treating the body as a whole and attempting to harmonise the body and bring it back into balance – and thus can assist in bringing FSH back to a healthier level.
