The next thing to go was sugar and dairy. In April 09, I gave up Dairy, and sugar. Refined sugar and flour have little nutritional value due to all the processing they undergo. They also apparently cause the cells to age and throw the whole system out of whack.

Dairy is mucus and damp forming. And if you have ever read about all the steroids that get pumped into those dairy cows….and looked at the conditions under which they live – jammed up against each other in stalls all their life – well this decision was not that hard for me. Additionally, dairy is acid forming in your system. An acidic system is one that is conducive to disease. And in terms of fertility the reproductive system must be more alkaline than acid.

If you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, PCOS, you MUST stay far from sugar, dairy and flour. Also if you are over 35 and trying to conceive, stay really far from these. In TCM it is said that sugar impairs the Spleen which is necessary for digestion.

The organs that TCM refers too may have the same names as those mentioned in Western medicine but in fact they refer to whole systems so e.g. a Spleen system and a Kidney system. I cant really explain it but it makes sense. And I have heard of lots of women for whom this simple dietary change has resulted finally in a positive pregnancy test. All for baby, right?

I have had a harder time giving up wheat. Giving up pastries and pies, ah, sigh. It was really tough. There is this little café that sells the most divine potato danishes – sometimes I dream about those. However, I have given up all those. Even gave up roti – something like a pita bread – it is an Indian delicacy. All for our baby.

But there is still one thing that I eat – little whole wheat crackers – it is just so convenient. I just cant seem to find anything to replace them. I can eat them with sardines or tuna and I still have them maybe once or twice a week. Working on that one. If you have any ideas for a wholesome replacement without flour please let me know.
