Why must getting pregnant be so bloody expensive!!!!
to Getpregnantblog.com The dear husband and I had another fight about money. Alot of couples with fertility issues do. Everything about not being able to get pregnant costs money – from finding out why we cant conceive to trying new treatments to get pregnant. And not a little bit of money either. The diagnostics cost so much. The fertility medications cost so much. The doctor’s fees for Intrauterine Inseminations (IUI) cost so much. And forget about InVitro Fertilisation (IVF) – it is through the roof.
There is no bloody way that we could afford that. Even the Traditional Chinese Medicine costs so much. The diagnostic consult cost US$250. The herbal teas cost $360 for one month’s supply! Can you believe that! Then there is the recurring cost of the acupuncture. And they tell you to relax and not stress! How on earth are we supposed to not stress when we are ekeing out our last dime to have a baby.
To even contemplate IVF we would have to take a loan. Imagine that, to have a child I need to take a loan – but I left the stressful job because stress is bad for trying to conceive so no bank would give me a loan because I dont have a steady income! Go figure. And to top it all off, there is no guarantee that after we throw thousands of dollars down the drain we will get pregnant and finally hold our baby in our arms!
We could end up in the poorhouse and still never get a baby. Which is pretty much where we are and why the dear husband and I are fighting. The sad part is that I know that he is right. We can’t afford to keep throwing money we do not have behind this. Our credit cards are maxed out. Our lives are basically on hold and going nowhere.
And it really gauls me that other people get pregnant and have babies without spending one single cent – sometimes they do not even do prenatal care and the baby bounces out healthy as pie. Yet here we are, having literally spent thousands with nothing to show for it except frustration. And there does not seem to be any happy ending in sight.

I emailed you on another thread, won’t write the same here (be assured..). It really seems SO unfair that hard working people in the US don’t get a fair, full cover health insurance! Even in the most Medieval European countries they have this.. It’s so unfair that people can get on the street if a family member get’s ill, or has an accident, or something like that. That the costs of medication and health care is so rediculously high overseas! Really, really unfair…. I hope things will soon change, and the rich folks can add something of their wealth to the less fortunate ones, so everyone can have affordable health insurences. I don’t eant to make this into a social-political post, my apologies if it comes across like that, but I find it so unfair, easpecially in your situation.
Your future (baby wise) might have been so different if you would have had acccess to proper and full health care, or at least a more affordable one. Please see my other post,
best of wishes
